Family Herbalism

A Daytime, 6-Month Foundational Herbal Medicine Program

Drawing from the expertise and experience of a well-rounded faculty, with many years of clinical and teaching experience, the goal of this foundational herbal program is to teach you to confidently use herbal medicine for many common ailments you and your family may encounter... from infancy to eldercare. Like our 9-month Explorations in Traditional Western Herbalism course, this program offers students a strong foundation in herbal healthcare, basic nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices to promote and enhance well-being and is being offered during the day for students who are unable to attend evening classes.

Class meets every Monday morning from 9:30 until 1pm with one Sunday botanical daylong excursion. Each class consists of lecture, group discussion and medicine making. Four field trips include herb walks, botany instruction and hands-on flower essence making. Students will take home all medicine made in class for their herbal medicine cabinet. Completion of this program will provide you with instruction in the following areas:

  • Comprehensive Herbal Materia Medica/Pharmacology on over 100 Medicinal Plants/Fungi
  • Herb Safety, Herb/Drug Interactions
  • Introduction to Herbal Energetics
  • Body System Therapeutics
  • Extensive Hands-on Medicine Making Techniques
  • Basic Botany and Plant Identification
  • Creating Deeper Connections with Nature and Ourselves
  • Flower Essence Training
  • Herbal Support for Detoxification and Cleansing Pathways
  • Herbal First Aid

Unpaid internships are available for those who seek to immerse themselves into deeper avenues of learning. We have two tracks: a garden internship, as well as an internship in our retail shop. These internships require a commitment of a minimum of 4 hours per month for the term of the session you are enrolled in. Internships will be discussed in further detail on the first day of class.
