Meanwhile more and more studies show that singing has so many benefits to our health: physically, emotionally and spiritually! Singing releases the hormone oxytocin which helps relieve anxiety and stress. Singing in a group can magnify this effect. Singing can stimulate healthy brain cells, lower blood pressure and boost the immune system. Singing can enhance focus and concentration. Singing as a form of health care is free and doesn’t require expensive equipment! Everyone can sing!! It is our birthright to sing. Our soul LOVES to sing!!

In this 3 part series, you’ll have the chance to experience a wide variety of kinds of singing. Session 2: Circle Singing - Friday, October 21
In session two, we’ll explore circle singing as a means to building trust, building community and as a transformational tool. We’ll build on exercises in rhythm, harmony and communicating with singing tools to help you feel comfortable creating and improvising.

Session 3: Singing as a Healing Tool - Friday, November 18
In session three we’ll explore singing as a healing tool. You’ll learn practices to help you get into the state of receptiveness, to be able to feel what comes through you. We’ll work on singing with a variety of drone sounds, singing with nature. We’ll practice with each other with specific exercises to learn how we can affect the energies of others with our voice.

About Heidi Irgens, M.A.
I grew up with deaf parents. In our household, we used a lot of nonverbal communication. It was difficult for me as I got older to express myself with words, but I could sing. Choir was one place where I could sing out and really express myself. Paradoxically I studied voice in college, but shifted to Communications. I continued to sing in various manners (in bands, in choirs, small groups). When people asked me what church I grew up with, I answered “it depended on the choir”. I have sung with the Threshold Choir, have studied Sound Healing with Tom Kenyon, Tito la Rosa, and Chloe Goodchild (among others), and am a certified Acutonics Practitioner. (Acutonics Institute for Integrative Medicine). I love to sing! I sing to and with my clients as a healing form. For more information about Heidi, please visit: www.energease.com

During the first day of the workshop, Alice will demonstrate how to make a simple hydrosol-based balancing day cream and a more complex, anti-aging, nourishing night cream. During the afternoon workshop, we will discuss methods of combinations and how to formulate for a particular skin type or skin condition. Alice will demonstrate how to create a proper master formulation spreadsheet. Students will have the opportunity to put their knowledge in practice by creating their own master formula.

During the second day, students will be introduced to the sophisticated realm of luxury serums. On the market, you can find two types of serums: oil serums or gel based Serums, both of them are comparable to natural supplements in that they can boost, heal, hydrate and rejuvenate the epidermis. Alice will introduce the group to raw materials and gums from which you may create your own gel bases from scratch. She will also discuss various powerful botanical extracts, cosmeceuticals, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, precious carrier oils, natural emollients, hydrosols and many other ingredients that will allow the student to discover the possibilities for creating their own unique recipes. Alice will demonstrate how to make a gel as well as an oil-based luxury serum. In the afternoon, students will be guided in creating their own master formula.

Students will take home a:

  • 1 oz. rejuvenating serum gel
  • 1 oz. custom-blended oil-based serum
  • 1 oz. jar of balancing cream
  • 1 oz. custom scented night cream.

Cleansing Oils & Toners

with Alice Encinas-Duvernell, Natural Cosmetic Designer & Consultant

Saturday, December 10th from 10am to 4pm

This class is an introduction to alternative ways of deeply cleansing the skin with oil formulas and hydro-based cleansers. This ancient, greatly prized, but forgotten method is an excellent substitute to replace overly abrasive and soap-based facial cleansers. These modern methods of cleansing the skin often result in outbreaks or excessive dryness. Alice will explain the process of how to make efficient recipes based on a choice of ingredients specifically chosen for each skin type. Many precious raw ingredients will be presented and discussed for their properties and benefits. The emphasis will also be put on pH levels (acid and alkaline toners), cleansing protocols, preservation systems and anti-oxidant systems.

In the second part of the class, students will be initiated into the art of making natural, high-quality hydro-tonic toners with botanical ingredients, cosmeceuticals, hydrosols, and hydroxy-acids from fruits and natural acids. These toners will procure in-depth cleansing, which refines and tones the skin and reduces open pores. Students will create their own master recipe spreadsheet and blend a water-based toner and an oil cleanser, based on their own particular skin types. This recipe will also be custom scented with organic essential oil blends.

Students will take home:

  • a 1 oz cleansing oil
  • a 2 oz facial toner

Students are welcome to bring their own botanical extracts, essential oils or favorite toner to use in their recipe or share with the class.

Sterilization & Standard Good Manufacturing Practices: Level 1

with Alice Encinas-Duvernell, Natural Cosmetic Designer & Consultant

Sunday, January 22nd 2017, 9am to 12pm

A GMP (good manufacturing process) is a system for ensuring that products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards. It is designed to minimize the risks involved in any herbal or cosmeceutical production that cannot be eliminated through testing the final product.

GMP’s cover all aspects of production from the starting materials, sterilization processes, preparation of premises and equipment to the training and personal hygiene of staff. Detailed, written procedures are essential for each process that could affect the quality of the finished product. These methods are important to put in practice in any business that involves products that are internally taken, topically applied or even sprayed in the air or on surfaces. This “standardization” of your procedures gives great tools to protect your customers and your business, but also have a great value in the situation of an FDA audit. The teacher will share a database system and sample sheets in a organized binder to provide documented templates that will allow correct procedures to be documented, showing that they are consistently followed at each step in the manufacturing process - every time a product is made.

A great class for anyone thinking of creating a business around medicinal extracts, food products, cosmetics, but also the business owner that would like to put in place a GMP practice in their growing company.
