Fall Plant Journey Series - Visionary and Transformational Allies!

with Judy Lieblein, Shamanic Practitioner, Herbalist, Animal Communicator and Reiki Master

Saturdays from 1:30-4pm: August 15, September 12, October 24, November 21
Each class may be taken individually

This Fall we are working with plants that call us deeper. Deeper into ourselves and the world we live in. Opening pathways that lead us to …. Parts that lay behind the veil of our waking consciousness. Gifts that have been hidden. Visions waiting to be born. Dreams calling to be birthed. Identities no longer of use to us. Parts of ourselves that we need to come forward become available now. Come Journey with us and experience the magic and wonder of these extraordinary plant allies. The Dreamtime is calling!

A plant’s story, medicine and magic is available to us at all times and in a variety of ways. In this series, we will explore the different ways plants weave their magic through the telling of their story in relation to their cultural uses, appearance, habitat and energetic make-up. A direct experience of Journeying with the plant thru meditation, ingesting a small dose of tincture, flower essence and/or tea and a plant attunement will further foster the connection. There will be time for the integration of this knowledge through the sharing of our experiences and/or journaling.

We will open our minds, hearts and senses to new worlds and possibilities through one plant in each class. Join us for a fun and empowering way to access your own inherent wisdom while deepen your connection to yourself and the world around you. This is Plant Spirit Medicine! All levels welcome. For those new to Plant Journeying a ‘How to Journey’ class is offered 30 min before each class. Class size is limited to eight. Please bring a journal!

Aug. 15 - Queen Anne’s Lace /Wild Carrot (Daucus carota) - Back by popular demand! One of my top 3 Female Spirit remedies Wild Carrot’s enchanting and mesmerizing nature calls us to take responsibility for ourselves in an effortless way. A light and airy white flowerhead composed of a multitude of umbellets with a single purple flower in the middle, leaves that grow in a spiral pattern and a deep tap root gives a hint to the magic Wild Carrot offers us. Come journey with Wild Carrot and see what is waiting to be transformed!

Sept. 12 - Ocotillo (Fouquieria splendens) - A stunning and provocative plant that is indigenous to the deserts of the Southwest. Growing up to 20ft high, thorns covering the long branches/stems and stunning red flowers she can’t be missed. Ocotillo speaks of times forgotten and parts of ourselves we have left behind. Fierce, radiant and passionate Ocotillo calls us home. Come Journey with Ocotillo and see what has been left behind.

Oct. 24 - Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) - Aromatic, light and filled with the essence of the Moon Mugwort is one of my favorite plants to come upon hiking. She speaks of coolness with a fiery nature. Green leaves with a silvery underbelly and yellow flowers that glow in the light of the Moon. Warming, expansive and stimulating Mugwort moves blocked and stagnant energy within our bodies and psyches. Come Journey with Mugwort and experience the unification of the lunar and solar forces within you.

Nov. 21 - Black Cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa_ - Black Cohosh’s innate ability to untangle and unwed us from past relationships, unconscious contracts and commitments is just one of the many gifts she shares so freely. From her dark and tangled root to her dainty snake-like white flower head she can be found growing wild in the Eastern Woodlands of the U.S. Come Journey with Black Cohosh and experience her ability to move through the shadows of time cleansing and liberating our Soul essence into the light of awareness.

Cacao (Theobroma cacao) - Cacao has long been considered a “Food of the Gods” and even its Latin name Theobroma translates to exactly that! To this day, the Cacao spirit is considered one of the most powerful deities in Mayan cosmology as well as in many indigenous cultures in Central and South America with its use is dating back to 1900-900BC. Shamanic Herbalism is a path of personal empowerment. It is a way of consciously choosing to engage with oneself, the land, plants, animals and the world around us in a sacred way. Introduction to Herbal Energetics
Wednesday, October 7th from 7-9pm
Learning and understanding the language of Herbal Energetics is an exciting and empowering way to work with Herbs. Herbal Energetics is a system that has been used for thousands of years in India, China, Tibet and in the Americas by Indigenous Native Tribes. The Energetic system is a method to understand how a plant moves through the body, mind and senses. How it affects the different organs, body systems and tissue states. In this class, we will be exploring the 6 tastes and the 20 attributes by tasting a variety of herbs to acquaint our body, mind and spirit with Herbal Energetics. Please bring a journal. No previous experience is necessary.

Introduction to Plant Journeying
Wednesday, October 14th from 7-9pm
A plant’s story, medicine and magic is available to us at all times and in a variety of ways. In this class, you will learn different techniques to connect to the plants, basic Herbal Energetics, states to enhance the connection and the benefits of Journeying. A direct experience of Journeying with a plant through meditation and ingesting a small dose of tincture and/or a flower essence will follow. A plant attunement will further foster the connection. There will be time for integration of the experience through journaling and/or sharing our experiences. Please bring a journal. No previous experience necessary.

Tools of the Shamanic Herbalist
Wednesday, October 21st from 7-9pm
In this class, we will go over the How’s and Why’s of some of the most important tools available to us. We will be delving into the subjects of offerings, ethics, wildcrafting, connecting to the land, choosing an herbal ally & personal and social responsibility and more. These tools will help us connect and deepen our relationship to ourselves, the plants and the world around us.

Connecting to the Land - Field Trip
Sunday, October 25th from 9-12pm. Devil's Gulch Trailhead, Samuel P. Taylor State Park
We will meet out in Nature to apply and experience what we have learned. Focus will be on connecting to and exploring our relationship to the land, plants and animals around us. There will be group meditations as well as time for private exploration and meditation. The hike in will be easy to moderate and mostly shaded. It can get cool or hot so layering of clothing is a good idea. Please bring a journal, pen or pencil, water and a snack. Pre-registration is required for this class. Reiki as Path

A Nine-Month Reiki Master/Teacher Intensive with Mia Runanin, Somatic Counselor & Reiki Master/Teacher

One Sunday a Month from September 2015 through May 2016

For some, reiki is more than a practice, it is a path of awakening to the truth of what we are. While many might be drawn to this healing resource as an adjunct to their work or as a means of self care, more and more students understand and take reiki in as a teacher and guide. Developing a relationship with this work means having a ground of being that remains true no matter how the circumstances of our lives may shift around us.

I have been a reiki master/teacher for 25 years. In addition to sharing what I have learned, we will also have guest teachers and field trips to broaden our experiential understanding. We’ll study physical and energy anatomy, self-care and boundaries, somatic awareness, ethics and professionalism, and more. We will also cover the nuts and bolts of what it means to start a reiki practice: how to discuss reiki with prospective clients, how to begin developing a practice while you’re still in training, how to offer continuing education credits, make your own certificates, and more.

Over the course of the nine months, we will cycle through each of the three levels of reiki three times, spiraling deeper with each pass and unlocking greater understanding of how reiki moves through us as body, mind and spirit. Each month, students will be reattuned to the level where we’re working in a private attunement/check-in appointment with me, and then we will all meet as a group for a full-day workshop. Between our meetings we will create community by setting up reiki practices and exchanges, and students will be given assignments every week to keep them on track and immersed in the work.

Combining down-to-earth advice with the most esoteric aspects of the work, students will graduate with a solid body of knowledge, many hours of hands-on experience, a circle of support, a personal practice of self care, and the ability to offer and teach all three levels of reiki. Whether you are new to reiki or have been practicing for years, this in-depth intensive will deepen your skill and understanding, and set you firmly on the path.

    The History of Western Herbalism

    with Matthew Wood

    Saturday, October 3rd from 10am to 5pm

    Register early!

Before the age of pharmaceutical drugs, there were plants. Plant medicine is the oldest form of healing we know of. Plants have graced this Earth far before humankind. If it wasn't for the flora on this plant, humans could not exist! Using plants as medicine goes back as far as mankind. In fact, where traditional cultures still exist, herbal medicine prevails as the current form of healing. In this class, Matthew Wood will paint a picture of the history of herbal medicine from the ancient Greeks to the resurgence of herbalism in modern society. You'll learn about the history and principles of Thomsonian, Physiomedicalist, Eclectic, and Homeopathic schools of healing as well as the introduction of Flower Essences by Dr. Edward Bach.

Matthew Wood has been an active practitioner of traditional Western herbalism for over 30 years. He has helped tens of thousands of clients over the years, with many difficult health problems. While Matthew believes in the virtue of many other healing modalities, he has always been inspired to learn, preserve, and practice the tradition of herbal medicine descending to us from our European, Anglo-American, and Native American heritage. He is a member of the American Herbalists Guild (registered herbalist) and has earned his Masters of Science degree from the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine (accredited by the University of Wales).

Herbal Energetics: The Six Tissue States of Western Herbalism

    with Matthew Wood

    Sunday, October 4th from 10am to 5pm

    Register early!

Aristotle broke the natural world up into four basic qualities: hot, cold, damp, and dry. These were used in Greek medicine to define the basic patterns of imbalance and the properties of plants. Thus, by hot to cold, or damp to dry, the Greeks envisioned the treatment of disease. For instance, cayenne is warming and stimulating, increasing the circulation of the blood when it is tending to coagulate and the action of the heart to push it. For the sake of completion, we also include two basic conditions: tension and relaxation. Putting them altogether we have a system of six types, which corresponds to the system of six “tissue states” introduced by the physiomedicalists in the early twentieth century. Matthew will teach us about the six tissue states and how they can be helpful in choosing appropriate herbs for treating the individual.
